The 10th annual Coal Creek Health Day had it all… bug hunts, fish surveys, fly tying, casting lessons, and beautiful weather marked the morning activities when we checked the health of the creek by documenting what lives in it.  After lunch, students joined Rep. Les Winningham and descendants of Coal Creek miners to dedicate the listing of Briceville Church and Cemetery on the National Register of Historic Places.

In the tradition of the Welsh miners who settled in Coal Creek after the Civil War, Briceville students participated in an Eisteddfod Literary Competition.  Briceville student Sklar Mozingo won the competition and presented her winning essay, as did runners-up Noah Lamb and Sydney Campbell.

With so many activities taking place at once, we worried about having enough volunteers.  As always, the Clinch River Chapter of Trout Unlimited stepped up to the plate, along with our friends from TVA, UT, OSM, and Anderson County’s LEARN Center students who were a HUGE help!
