Coal Creek Spring Cleaning Day!
2 April 2016

60 bags of trash and debris
removed from historic
Slatestone Road
in Briceville, TN

Great group of volunteers!

FUTURE LEADERS IN ACTION TODAY!

Absolutely beautiful day in Coal Creek today!!  Former Briceville School students who are either currently in college, attending Anderson County High School, and friends and family voluntarily showed up and collected 60 bags of trash, tires, pipes, plastic horses, and all kinds of random debris that for some sad reason people choose to throw out on this beautiful area that God created. They worked the 1.5 mile long Slatestone Road that runs from Briceville School past the entrance to where the Cross Mountain Mine exploded in 1911 and killed 84 men and boys (But five men were saved after 58 hours in the first successful mine rescue by the Bureau of Mines), and on to the end of Slatestone at the site of the US Airforce Base that was built in the 1950s to guard Oak Ridge against Russian bombers. ALL KINDS OF HISTORY IN COAL CREEK!!  Thanks so much to Librarian Daphne Windham for opening Briceville Library for us this morning.  www.coalcreekaml.com
