Each year, we offer to take the high school scholars to visit a college campus of their choice so they can learn more about what life is like on a college campus. For 2006, we toured the campus of Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). MTSU is located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee about a three hour drive from Coal Creek. Coal Creek Scholar Andy Harness who is a student at MTSU was our very informative host and tour guide. Andy showed us the campus, dormitories, class rooms and campus buildings so the scholars could get an idea of what college life is like at MTSU. |

I n 1909, the General Assembly of the State of Tennessee moved “to provide for the improvement of the system of Public Education of the State of Tennessee, that is to say, to establish a General Education Fund.” MTSU has an academic city of over 500 acres, more than 22,000 student, and a faculty of over 800. For more on the history of MTSU visit their history page. |

| Tour guide Andy Harness showed us classrooms inside the school's Aeronautic, Business, Communications, and other programs. We visited the impressive library and computer labs. The students got to step inside the hands-on classroom where MTSU students learn to become airline pilots. |
